About Me

Cooking and eating home cooked food has always been important to me ...but I am not a fan of cooking !

Hence the name of the blog ...The Reluctant Cook

I have always had the most delicious food growing up, my mum was a brilliant cook who made the most amazing curries and liked to experiment so we had food from different continents growing up. My grandmother and aunties loved cooking and the conversation at breakfast was about lunch and what we would have for dinner.

The pressure was on to learn and to be just as brilliant as they were...sadly cooking was not my passion and I learnt to cook the basics because its expensive and unhealthy to buy precooked meals. I also wanted to create the same warmth and comfort for my family that I got growing up where food played an important role.

My mum tried her best to teach me how to cook when I was in my teens but although I helped out with the  peeling and chopping  I didn't pay a lot of attention to how the dishes were put together .

Once I had my own family I started to cook however there were many recipes that I didn't get a chance to learn and when my mum passed away in 2010 I lost that opportunity. I have tried to remember some of the recipes of dishes that I grew up eating and have asked  family members and friends to share recipes that they learnt from my mother or remember her making. I now try and recreate the food that I used to love eating when I was growing up along with new recipes that I have learnt from friends & family that have become our family  favourites.

Ultimately this blog was created because I want to make sure my daughter has access to all the recipes that she enjoys and has grown up with as like me she is also a reluctant cook.
