Tamatar ka kut



Tamatar ka kut is a Hyderabadi  dish that is a combination of a chutney and a curry it can be eaten on its own or as a side dish. My mum used to make this and it reminds me of her whenever I eat it. Don't let the number of ingredients put you off making the dish its very simple to make and tastes delicious. 





Ingredients 

Tomatoes 1 kg
Onion 4 tbsp
Garlic 1 tbsp
Cumin seeds 1 tsp
Dried curry leaves  6
Whole dried red chilies 8-10
Red chili powder 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder  1 tsp
2 tbsp gram flour (blended in a little bit of water)
Salt to taste
Kalongi (onion seeds) 1 tsp
Sugar 1 tbsp
Vinegar 4 tbsp
Oil  4 to 5 tbsp

2 boiled eggs cut in half 
Coriander leaves

For the garnish

2 tbsp oil
2 cloves of garlic finely chopped
1 tsp cumin seeds
4 curry leaves


Method

Steam the tomatoes and peel off the skin and chop or use tinned chopped tomatoes. 

Heat the oil in a pan add the curry leaves, cumin, Kalongi, garlic, whole chilies and fry. 

Add the tomatoes, onion, salt, sugar, chili powder, turmeric and vinegar cook for 10 mins and then add the blended gram flour put on a low heat and simmer for another 10 minutes. 

Heat the oil and add the ingredients for the garnish fry for a few minutes and add to the pan with the tomato mixture now add the eggs and coriander cover and leave for a few minutes on a low heat. 



                                                          



This dish can be eaten with vegetable rice or with naan bread and salad.
